Dear Mr XXXXXXX

Greetings from health care magic!!! I am Dr Thakker and shall be answering your question.

I can understand your concerns about Hep c and its complications of cirrhosis.

Cirrhosis is an irreversible complication of hepatitis c infection. There is fibrosis of the organ with loss of function. The only permanent cure for it is an orthotropic liver transplant. This is available at many corporate hospitals in major metros. The best of them is at Apollo hospital XXXXXXX Global hospital XXXXXXX Medanta medcity XXXXXXX However this is an expensive affair with total cost upto rs 25 lakhs.

With regards to viral load in genotype 3 of hep c: This genotype is more difficult to treat. However there are new drugs available in market like Sofosbuvir, Teleprevir, Boceprevir which can be used in combination with ribavirin in those unresponsive to interferon therapy. You need to talk to your gastroenterologist who is treating your Hep c for using these new protocols.

I hope this helps you out. If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to write back to me.

Yours sincerely,
Dr Thakker.

Dear Mr XXXXXXX

The discussion of the cost of treatment and the different protocol is beyond the scope of this platform and a GP level query. I would encourage you to consult a gastroenterologist in person and talk to him about the same. I can give you some links of the recent studies that you can read and see for yourself the effectiveness.

The drugs I have mentioned are new, expensive and safer than peg interferon. the usual duration of treatment is 24 to 48 weeks.

I hope this helps you out. If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to write back to me.

Yours sincerely,
Dr Thakker.
