Question: Hi,

Before my pregnancy i was diagnosed for PCOS. I was asked to take Metformin 500mg per day. Even after getting pregnant i have been asked to continue the same.

I am now 33weeks pregnant. Is it still safe to take metformin?
My blood sugar tests shows normal during fasting and after meals. Is that because i am on metformin ?

Brief Answer:
YES.IT COULD BE BECAUSE OF THAT

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Greetings
I can understand your situation.

Since you were having PCOS, obstetrician has advised you to take metformin to regularize your ovulation and to assist pregnancy outcome. That is why you have been advised to continue and it is found to be safe in controlling diabetes in pregnancy.
HOPE you are discussing this with your obstetrician too. Since the sugar is under control your doctor is not switching on to insulin.
However if you have any discomfort you can always discuss with your obstetrician and if necessary it can be stopped if your sugar is under control

HOPE MY ANSWER HELPS YOU.
Regards
