Is It Safe To Use Creatine Monohydrate While Suffering From Hypothyroidism?

default
Posted on Fri, 27 Mar 2015
Question: I am a 25 year old female who suffers with Hashimoto's, hypothyroidism, PCOS, and insulin resistance. I take 100mcg of Synthroid daily and 500mg of Metformin twice a day. I have been working out pretty hard and I'm wanting to add supplements into my program. Would it be safe to use Creatine Monohydrate? I already use protein powders and haven't had any side effects but I want to be safe.

Brief Answer:
You need to careful while taking creatine monohydrate

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,
Thanks for using HCM.

Creatine monohydrate is generally used to increase the muscle mass and sometimes for a few medical conditions also.
Check your liver and kidney functions as creatine monohydrate should be avoided in liver and kidney diseases.
Avoid it if you have high blood glucose also.
Since you are already on protein powders, you need to be careful while taking creatine monohydrate as it will increase the load on the kidneys.

I hope that answers your question.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

With kind regards,
Dr.Barani.

Thank you for your quick reply. I am wanting to use it to increase muscle mass. I'm just not sure if it would irritate my thyroid condition. Any information on that? Thanks in advance.
