Is It Safe To Go For Hiking While Suffering From Skipped Heart Beats?

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Sep 2015
Question: EKG shows every skip every 4th beat. I am 82 exercise daily tread mill, weights, stretchesnd ride a bike 20 to 30 miles in a day once weekly - sometimes 7 straight days with no pain or exhaustion. My Cardiologist says whenever pain starts stop activity and if subsides quickly no worry but if pain continues get medical attention.

Your thoughts on my taking a bike adventure abroad riding 14 days average 30 miles. I have done this adventure yearly for last 12 years.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

Since you exercise regularly and you don't have chest pain or other symptoms, you may take the adventure as you have done over the past years.

However If you were my patient i would have done before leaving the following examinations:
- Blood work
- ecg
- chest x ray

Also it's essential to follow your doctor advice during bike adventures. You should stop riding the bike if you feel any pain and should seek for medical advice if the pain persist 5 minutes after stopping the ride.

Hope this will be of help!
