Is It Necessary To Have Vaccination After Bitten By A Vaccinated Dog?

default
Posted on Fri, 7 Aug 2015
Question: My daughter has 5 years was playing with my neighbor dog & suddenly she came to me crying & showed me a wound in her waist .
She can't describe if it was a dig bite or dog claw .
I asked the dog's owner who told me that it took all the vaccinations & nothing to worry about .
I swapped it with betadine ( antiseptic) .
Is that enough ??

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry if dog is vaccinated.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome to XXXXXXX care magic,

It seems to be a lesion due to dog claw but not bite. So, chances of infection are less.

Also,if the dog is domestic and not a street dog with recipient of all vaccinations including rabies then I do not think there is anything to worry about.

However,if the animal would show signs of rabies within 3 to 5 days (which would be rare here) then I would advice you to take vaccine.

Here is the schedule,

1) Inj rabipur on days 0,3,7,14 and 28.(here no need to be given in your daughter's case).

Day 0 is the day of first shot of vaccination,to be taken on to the shoulder by intramuscular route.

2) Inj.tetanus toxoid 1 ampoule at Intramuscularly once only.

3) Inj.Diclofenac for pain relief (If there is pain)

4) The wound should be washed with sterile water and antiseptic solution.(betadine is okay)

Hope this will help yoi.Wish you good health.
