Is GGT Value Of 170 A Cause For Concern?
Question: what is bad liver GTC mine was 60 is now 170, cause by alcohol
Brief Answer:
alcohol may indeed raise the gamma-GT
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I suppose you're talking about gGT (gamma-glutamyl-transferase) which is a liver enzyme particularly sensitive to injury induced by alcohol. This enzyme gets better when the patient stops alcohol but may take up to one month for complete recovery. Continuous alcohol abuse causes additive damage to the liver. When a certain limit is exceeded (unpredictable in individual basis) the liver may be unable to cope with the level of injury and irreversible loss of function may occur.
So, stopping alcohol seems like a sound advice, although I don't have the complete biochemical panel report.
I hope it helps!
Kind Regards!
