Posted on Wed, 22 Apr 2015
Question: My wife is on leotte medication from past couple of months. She has 21 tablets and a gap of 7 days in between everytime. This time she has already taken 4 tablets . However this time the gap was 8 days instead of 7 days. We had intercourse yesterday. So is she required to have ipill as a precautionery measure(i am asking this because there was a gap of 8 days).

She is going at her native place for 1 month in couple of days so is she required to continue with leotte so we wont be having intercourse during these days and would this have adverse effect on her periods

Brief Answer:
No need to take I pill.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Since she has regularly been on the birth control, there is no need for her to take the I pill.
7 days gap is normal, and 8 days is not a worry.
When she is not going to be sexually active, she can stop the pills for that month.
There will be adverse effect on her periods.
After her gap week of 7 days, she can stop the tablets, whenever she restarts it has to be from second day of her period.
All the best
