Is Doing Weight Training Exercises Safe After A Hernia Surgery?

default
Posted on Tue, 20 May 2014
Question: Hi Doctor,

My body weight is low (55kg) compared to the ideal BMI. and planning to go to gym to put on some weight.
Here is my concern.. I went through Hernia Surgery 18 months ago and not sure whether i can do muscle building exercises or not. Does the surgery has any impact on my body?
Should i gain weight first and then start exercising? or is it the right time to go?
Please suggest.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
its right time to go

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

As its already been 18 months since your hernia surgery, you need not worry about it. You can start weight training right away.

Only thing that you need to be careful is that always wear support while lifting heavy weight.

Hope i have been helpful.
