Is Vyvanse Effective In Managing Binge Eating Disorder?

default
Posted on Wed, 25 Jan 2017
Question: I was prescribed Vyvanse 70 mg daily several years ago but had to stop taking it because I did not have insurance and could not afford it. I now have insurance but my doctor has retired and I can not get my primary physician to write it for me, he claims he does not wish to deal with any"psych" meds. What do I do, my professional work is suffering greatly and I am also prone to binge eating disorder which Vyvanse helped me manage?

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

Vyvanse is indeed indicated for treating ADHD and binge eating disorder. It is common for primary physicians to refer to psychiatrists for managing this DEA Schedule II Controlled Substance. If your primary physician does not have a referral to offer you, you should call your insurance company, who will provide you with a lists of psychiatrists in your area who accept your insurance whom you visit to consider prescribing this medication.

Is it possible for you to actually treat me in the capacity of a psychiatrist and prescribing physician?

Detailed Answer:
No, I do not take insurance, and in any event prescribing Schedule II Controlled Substances legally requires an in-person evaluation to prescribe.
