Question: Hello doc. I have just checked my routine TSH level at Pathology lab. It is 150. Last time I have checked it before 1.5 yr. Should I start taking medicine of0.75 mg of thyroxine which were earlier prescribed by doc or I will again consult it further.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking!
The TSH 150 is very high and 75 mcg should be low to correct it.
Anyway the dose is individual, i would suggest to restart the prior dose ( the dose you had when TSH was 1.5 ) and check TSH level after 6 weeks. If it persists high, consult a physician to adjust the dose.
I would suggest also to take levothyroxine regularly ( every morning with empty stomach and not to eat for 30 min after) and not interrupt the treatment.
it is a long life therapy.
Hope the information will help.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta

Welcome back!

Yes, I think 100 mcg may be an appropriate dose for your age. It needs at least 6 weeks treatment to correct TSH level.

Low thyroid hormone levels ( or high TSH) can cause poor semen quality, poor testicular function and is of course suggested to have normal TSH before planing a pregnancy.

Wish you good health.

Dr.Mirjeta
