default
Posted on Tue, 25 Apr 2017
Question: Respected sir , I am a 19 year old male from XXXXXXX . 53 days back I had a risky exposure to HIV.Shes HIV +.On day 2 and day 3 I took truvada and then dropped out due to side effects .On day 15th PCR RNA and HIV duo test came out negative . As I took two pills of truvada I thought that it would take some more time for the virus to show up in blood hence I wasn't convinced with 15th day PCR and duo test results . On 28th day westernblot was negative . On 38th day PCR DNA test came out negative . On 50th day HIV combo test negative .I have few doubts . Can there be false negatives in my 38th day HIV PCR DNA test due to two pills of truvada ? On 45th day I developed oral ulcers and severe joint pains which is not making me to sleep also . It's paining very much . Is this ARS?pls reply regarding my symptoms without forgetting sir. Is 38th day HIV PCR DNA reliable ? How good is srl lab ? I am still having oral ulcers and very severe joint pains .How effective is two pills of truvada ? Can it give false negatives in 38th day PCR DNA test ?

Thanking you with best regards sir

Brief Answer:
Chances of HIV is almost nil.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for query. I am Dr Bharatesh D Basti answering your query.
Welcome to health care magic.I have gone through the details and can make out your anxiety.

The chances of transmission of HIV by unprotected intercourse with a HIV positive person is 1/200 to 1/1000.It is too low.
DNA/RNA PCR test is 99% Conclusive after 12-14 days Exposure. Usually it detects HIV 1. HIV 2 is very rare.
The combo test Negative after 28 days is almost Conclusive. It detects both P24 antigen and HIV 1&2 Antibodies. Antibodies are usually formed by 2-6 weeks , rarely by 12 weeks.
50 days test Negative results is almost conclusive.

The chances of HIV test results coming positive later is almost nil.
It is better you go for HIV 1&2 Antibodies tests after 12 weeks exposure for final conclusive results.
Truvada is not taken in proper dosage. It is Unlikely to effect the test results.

The symptoms are non specific and do not suggest HIV. Srl Lab is a reliable laboratory.

You can get back for any clarification.
