Is Manifest Kit Safe To Induce Abortion?
Question: This has been written to receive some genuine advice, This is the case of My Friend's sister aged 16 yrs. She recently confessed me about her having unprotected sex. The real issue is, she had already made it too late 4 us to know i.e.. around 7 weeks have been passed. My friend in a panic gave her a single first dose of manifest kit already but before taking any subsequent step,I would like to seek your advice about this case as the girl is just 16yrs old. Should we continue the course of manifest?

Since she is an unmarried girl it is necessary to terminate the pregnancy. But the mifegest kit is used for abortion if the pregnancy is less than 7 weeks. It is necessary to know the exact period of gestation by an ultrasound scan.
If pregnancy is more than 7-9 weeks than surgical cleaning of uterus i.e. suction and evacuation (S&E) or dilatation and curettage (D&C) is done.
After taking first pill containing mifepristone, the next two tablets containing misoprostol should be taken after 24 hours generally.
By this bleeding will start usually in 12 hours after the course and pregnancy will terminate within 24 hours.
This drug is to be taken under Medical Supervision as it can cause serious effects as nausea,vomiting,fever,pain and sometimes incomplete abortion can also occur causing the remnants to remain.
After abortion, she will have to take a repeat ultrasound to check the status of pregnancy. If there are any retained products of conception then she may need a D+C (dilatation and curettage).

Although My Friend gave her the first dose without medical guidance already(which is the reason I wanted to assure it from you) but now since the next dose of mifegest is due for today. Should I allow her to continue or break this kit course and suggest her to go for clinical help?
