Brief Answer:
Multiple level slip disc

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

Your mother is suffering from multiple level slip disc which is compressing the nerves going to the arms and legs.

This is the reason for pain and paraesthesia in the arms and legs.

There are two ways to deal with this problem.

One is Conservative management. Avoid bending forwards or lifting weights. Apply hot packs to the painful regions intermittently. Take Tablet Diclofenac with Thicolchicoside combination twice a day for 5 days after meals and Tablet Ranitidine 150mg twice a day for 5 days before meals. Do regular physiotherapy.

Try this for 2 months and if no relief, microdiscectomy out micro surgery to remove the slip disc can be done.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

If there is not improvement after the medications as well then how major the surgery will be.

Brief Answer:
Microdiscectomy is minor surgery. Patient discharged on the same day.

Detailed Answer:
If there is no improvement, the survey done these days is using camera endoscopes, through a very tiny Incision on the back. The surgery gets over typically in 1 hour or so. The patient is usually discharged the same day after observation. This survey is called Micro discectomy.
