Question: I have a uti from e.coli 50,000. My dr. Prescribed 500 mg. of Keflex twice a day for 7 days. Is that enough? Also the culture and sensitivity said the bacteria was sensitive to cefazoline, is that the same as Keflex?

Brief Answer:
Cefazolin and keflex(cephalexin) are basically the same!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this UTI. i am happy that you are being treated with the right drugs and for the right duration. Cefazolin and Keflex are similar, belong to the same class and act on the same germs. Using one in place of another has no problem and would be just as effective as the other.

The duration is good. Following the sensitivity testing, the antibiotic is adapted. Now, it is for you to take the drug as prescribed. I always recommend that my clients drink much water to help cleanse the passages which in itself helps with the treatment and sterilization of the urine passages.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
