I Was Drinking And Smoking Quite Regularly For The Past

default
Posted on Sat, 15 Jun 2019
Question: I was drinking and smoking quite regularly for the past few years, however i have stopped since the last 10 days. I feel a sense of severe agitation, anger and hopelesness.

I have also had bad issues with people around me, where i was publicly humilated, and I am currently in between jobs, as i my previous company has shutdown. I am also suffering from alopecia totalis, which has changed the way i look and feel about myself.

With so much going in my life, I have just given up and feel a sense of hoplesness.

How do i control my anger, despair and anxiety.

Brief Answer:
These are probably due to depression.

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for using 'Ask A Doctor' service

I can understand your problem. You have many ongoing issues and also quit alcohol and smoking. These are resulting in mood disturbance and change in attitude for self. Alcohol withdrawal is probably aggravating anger, agitation and mood swings. Hopelessness is due to depression most likely.

If you are not able to function properly because of these symptoms then please take the option of a Psychiatrist. Depression can be treated with medicines and cognitive therapy. Proper medicines will help you to change the feeling towards self and others. This will help to control anger.

SSRI drugs are commonly used drugs in depression. Escitalopram or Fluoxetine etc are used commonly and will reduce depression symptoms. For anxiety which is partly due to depression and partly due to alcohol withdrawal drugs like Clonazepam or Alprazolam or Chlordiazepoxide etc should be used. These drugs will reduce symptoms and will ease withdrawal symptoms.

Please don’t lose hope. Visit a doctor for evaluation and prescription. You will see improvement with drugs.

Thanks
