Can A Mammogram Detect A Lipoma Over The Sternum?

default
Posted on Tue, 14 Jun 2016
Question: I am scheduled to have a routine mammogram in the next 30 days but recently I have discovered what feels like a lipoma over my sternum. Would this area show up during a mammogram or would another test be more beneficial and accurate instead of having 2 separate tests, an US of sternum and a routine mammogram?

Detailed Answer:
Brief Ans-Diagnostic Value of MG for Pre-Sternal Lipoma

Hi Dear !! Thanks for your query to HCM.
Read and Reviewed your query and its health concerns.
Though diagnosing Lipoma is not the purpose of Mammogram, the sternal Lipoma could be confirmed along with its clinical findings.
By doing so, you could reduce on cost as desired and intended by you.
As you are scheduled for mammogram in next 30 days and AS Lipoma is not an emergency health issue, you could discover and diagnose Lipoma like mass in pre-sternal area, at time of mammography(MG)

Hope this would resolve your health issue.
