Question: I am a 46 year old female. I have recently (since August) experienced irregular menstral cycles) prior to this I have always been regular. In july I had aCT scan for a seperate issue and a hemoragic cyst was discovered. The san was reviewed by a gynocologist and I was told nothing to be concerned about no follow up warranted. The following day after that CT scan my monthly cycle for July began. Not sure if the cyst and timing of my period were related. Last night I experienced a dull ache type pain lower abdomen which has seemed to calm down. Could this pain be related to cyst, can cyst pain come and go? Can my irregular cycle be related to cyst or are they a function of my age? I have a check up with my gyno in about 5 weeks, is it ok to wait until then to be checked? My irregular periods results in lighter than normal menstral bleeding alomg with missing periods.

Brief Answer:
It could be due to hormonal imbalance

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Thanks for trusting us about your health care.
I have gone through your history and understand your concerns.
As per your description these symptoms could be due to hormonal imbalance caused by age( perimenopausal stage)
But as you missed your period it could be an anovulatory cycle.
Your irregular period could be due to cyst or it could be due to hormonal imbalance caused by perimenopausal stage.
Pain could be due to cyst and can come and go .
Hemorrhagic cyst can increase in size,so follow up CT scan is required in your case or you can go for repeat ultrasound.
Get your thyroid profile and hemoglobin test also.
Hope found useful, feel free to ask more information.
Good luck

Just had blood work last week for general physical normal thyroid and not anemic. Is it ok to wait the month or so for my annual gyno exam?

One last question. I started bleeding lightly this am which I assume is the beginning of my period which would be cycle day 38. I have noticied since my irregular periods have begun my bleeding is much lighter and pretty painless. I use to get pretty painful cramping with my periods. Also the light bleeding also only lasts a day or two. Are these light periods something to be concerned about?
