1 it is mostly like bumps, of drandruff. flaking happens when I scratch it off. but yes my scalp does not feel smooth it feels bumpy from dandruff.
2 I'm not aware of infection happening on my scalp in the past
3 if I skip washing my head, yes I can't stand the itchy feeling, I'm always itching :(
4 I do not use hair oils in my scalp but I do on my hair. I remember someone suggesting me to sleep with hair conditioner on my scalp the whole night. and I did that for a couple of nights and it went away but I stopped doing it and it came back again. I'm looking for a permanent solution vs. a temporary solution.
5 I have to wash it daily or else I will have an embarrassing itch the whole day.
6 YES I do have more skin problems like acne. I don't know any specifics because I never went to a dermatologist before. and I was planning in asking questions about my acne. I have dry skin. the only part that is oily is my nose. I sometimes have flakes in between my two eyebrows as well. I get pimples and I have ugly blemishes my pimples left behind I'm trying to get rid of as well.
7 I'm a student, I'm more often indoors than outdoors. when I was active I used to run track and play softball. I have stopped doing those activities and focused on academics.

Brief Answer:
pityriasis capitis” or dandruff: various suggestions and guidance.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome again and thanks for posting your details.

I can understand your concern for the problem dandruff. I completely agree with you as "dandruff" is definitely a very difficult situation to treat completely.

Let you understand few basic medical facts regarding dandruff: Our skin is multi-layered structure. It gets renewed every day. The layer which is present today on the top will not be present tomorrow and would be dead skin in form of scales which are not actually visible on normal skin. So we can say we are just one day old from our skin most superficially.

In some persons it is renewed at a faster pace or because of hygiene and scalp hair this dead skin in form of scales gets entangled and trapped in form of visible of scales known as dandruff. It varies from person to person and also on other of factors which makes the difference inter-individually.

Medically this condition is known as “pityriasis capitis”. It is highest in twenties and then recedes by itself in later part of life. It is due to the fact that the renewal of skin and the fatty acid secretion in scalp is highest at this part of life.

So there is a tendency to grow fungus as well which makes the flaking more perceptible. There are no such important predisposing factors except for few which can make the situation worsened.

For the remedy part follow the things below:

1.Wash your scalp daily. You will say you are already doing it. But my way of application is- it is to be done twice in a single bath. It means when you are washing your scalp apply first time shampoo for washing the hair part only, then rinse it off immediately with water. Reapply the shampoo again immediately, leave it for around 5 minutes, do a good gentle massage by your fingers for around 2 minutes and then wash it off. By doing so for around 7 days you will get good benefit.

2.The other way if you can not do two time wash is apply your shampoo ( diluted with water) for around half an hour before bath like an hair oil. And then rest of the second application and bath as told above. You can reduce the frequency of twice application after 2 weeks and then can optimize it according to your own need.

3.Stick to one good shampoo which is suiting your hair, don’t change the shampoos frequently. If you are using any conditioner also then to be used over the strands of hair only and not over the scalp skin.

4.Do not use any kind of hair oil or any oily or creamy stuff any time on your scalp. On one side there is no direct or indirect benefit of hair oil, on the other side it actually attract more of dirt and grease over the scalp leading to more proliferation of fungus and thence to more dandruff. People do say that this nourishes your hair- but hair nourishment is never provided by oil but by the best of proteins and mineral with vitamin diet.

5.Comb your hair at least 3-4 times a day and most importantly at night time so that the dust particle and other of dead skin is taken off.

6.Eat a lot of good healthy diet, do mild exercises, reduce your work stress as all these have bit impact on skin so also on scalp skin.

7.Finally if you are not getting relief from all these measures done judiciously and prudently then can apply and take certain antifungals and keratolytics (medicines reduce and removing excess scaling) under dermatological advice.

It is also commonly seen that people who have more dandruff are prone for pimples. I can make out from your history that you have pimples and marks too. For the same you can send few good resolution pictures of the affected area. You have a feature on the right side of the page to upload the pictures.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be happy to help or if you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer.

Wish you good health.

Brief Answer:
Pimples : various suggestions and guidance.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome again to the forum and thanks a lot for your swift response along with pictures.

I have gone through the pictures sent by you and after thoroughly analyzing the pictures I can make out that you have pimples with pigmentation and marks and bit redscars.

The main cause of pimple formation is basically due to hormones (chemicals which are influencing one or other body functions) in addition to the influence of certain other factors causing its aggravation. The hormone plays the most important role in high oil secretion and increase the size of oil glands. As the pores or ducts of the glands are blocked so it leads to formation of pimples.

There are certain other factors such as application of oily or creamy products, over exposure to sunlight, heat and humidity or due to pinching, popping and squeezing of the pimples also leads to formation of pimples. Once these are healing they leave the most problematic thing which are either marks or scars.

There are certain best of suggestions which you can follow:

1. Do not pinch, pop or squeeze any area on face.

2. Do not apply any creamy or oily stuff or any other cosmetics over face.

3. Try to avoid any home remedies suggested by your friends or family members or otherwise self implicated therapies also. Most of the times any of the home remedies blocks more of the pores and it results in more aggravation of pimples.

4. Do not take steam or steam bath or massage on your face as these also aggravates the pimples.

5. Try avoiding situations of direct continuous exposure to sunlight or heat and humidity for long hours.

6. Kindly do not use any antibiotic as self medication.

7. Do not apply any hair oil on scalp or apply in very less amount. Wash your scalp daily with some good shampoo and let there be no dandruff in your scalp (because dandruff itself causes blockage of pores of oil glands and then pimples).

For the marks -In your kind of cases if I were your treating doctor then would prescribed you a combination of skin lightening creams.

I general prescribe Kojic acid cream with arbutin on one night and another cream with soy isoflavones, liquorice extract and Tetrahydro curcumin on the other night. I suggest my patients to apply it in such a thin layer that it should not be visible by naked eye. Do not try to rub it. You can visit a dermatologist to get further guidance and get these creams prescribed.

These are very safe creams and can be used for the reduction of pigmentation.

As marks and scars are quite deep so it requires great patience of minimum few weeks to see the results for marks.

I suggest you to meet a proper dermatologist and discuss all the points as suggested above.

Hope this information will help you. If you have any further query I will be happy to help.

Brief Answer:
Kindly eat yellow and red fruits with green veg.

Detailed Answer:
Hello young lady,

Welcome again to the forum and thanks for posting your further query.

Regarding the use of various hypoallergenic products and other things: it is basically dependent on the sensitivity of the skin. In Caucasians meaning fair skin people, and that too with your kind of skin, we quite often find the sensitive skin which reacts to all kind of products. Even the hypoallergenic products reacts to the skin.

I suggest you to increase the intake of all red and yellow fruits which helps in repair process if the skin. These contain basically vitamin A which is sun protective too. So these fruits along with green vegetables helps in early repair as well as sun protection.

I hope these informations will relax your mind. I will be glad to answer any further queries or if not then can close the discussion and rate the answer.

Brief Answer:
Tell me your exact height and present weight along with medical history.

Detailed Answer:
Hello young lady,

Welcome again to the forum and thanks for posting your further query.

For the relation of hormones and acne: Yes, acne is basically due to hormonal issues. It is quite common to find acne at your age due to highest of upsurge of hormones by the age of 16-22years. I can see you are young girl of 19 years of age, exactly mid way between the highest of hormonal secretion. So it is quite obvious to find such kind of acne in yourself.

One big reason for high hormonal secretion is due to increase in weight. More of weight means more of fat and more of at means more hormones (as the hormones are basically formed from the cholesterol of fat).

For the role of hormonal pills or contraceptive pills: Hormonal pills can cause reduction of the acne. But these are effective only till the time you take these. Other than that there are certain side effects of the hormonal pills too!!!
We have to see certain specific features and related medical history before we can guide someone for the same.

Do let me know your exact height and present weight along with regularity or irregularity of your menstrual cycle and any other medical history in past so that I can deduce the findings and guide you accordingly.

I hope above information will help. I will be glad to answer any further queries.

Various suggestions for weight and pills.

Detailed Answer:
Hello young lady,

Welcome again to the forum and thanks for taking pains in sending the related information.

After analyzing various points I can make out fool owing important points:

- your weight is quite too high as per your height and age. It requires reduction to at leat more than 20 to 25 kg.

- reduction of weight would also curtail the fats and therefore cholesterol thereby reduction excess conversion hormones.

- A Good balance of hormones will therefore control both Pimples as well as there will be regularisation of the menstrual cycles too.

- for the part of contraceptive hormonal tablests: these can be take only under the guidance of a gynecologist or a health care personnel. I suggest you to take I under supervision only to reduce the side effects if any.
