How To Find Out When Infections Started During Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Jun 2014
Question: Hi, I am about 10 weeks pregnant, my anti CMV IgG is 23, IgM is 0.06, and my anti Rubella IgG is 28, IgM is 0,35. How do I find out when I got infected with these viruses (before or during pregnancy)? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
No specific tests.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The increased levels of IgG antigens is suggestive of a past infection and indicates your present immunity against the infections. Since the IgM levels are low it suggests that you are not having any of these infections currently.
It usually takes at least 6 weeks for the IgG antibodies to build up in your body. The chances of having a subclinical infection prior to conception are more likely. However there is no way to detect the exact time when you were infected.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.

Thank you, Doctor. Does it mean that my pregnancy is in a high possibility safe from Rubella and CMV? My toxo tests are both negative. Some of my neighbours got infected with toxo, Ribrlla and CMV. That's why I took the tests. I didn't take any herpes tests since I have no symptomps of herpes. Is it important for me to take the tests?

Brief Answer:
Yes you are safe.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Yes your pregnancy is safe from Rubella and CMV. It is best to get Herpes test also done as you are pregnant and an early detection can avoid the complications.
Hope my answer is helpful.

Thank you for the prompt reply, Doctor. Right now I am having a fever and my friend (she is in medical course) suggested me to take paracetamol. Is fever always caused by viral/bacterial infection? Do I have to see a doctor?

Brief Answer:
No need to see doctor right now.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
mild fever can be due to a viral infection or a reactionary fever. In case the temperature is less than 100 F then there is no need to worry . This will subside after taking paracetamol. In case the fever is recurrent or high grade then investigations are needed to find the cause.
Regards.
