Question: I HAD A REVISION OF MY DEPU asr hip REPLACEMENT AND HAD TOXIC LEVELS OF CHROMIUM AND COBALT POISONING DETERMINED FROM BLOOD TEST. THE SURGEON BELIEVES THAT WITH THE REVISON HE TOOK CARE OF THE POISONING. NO FOLLOW UP TESTING OF ANY KIND WAS RECOMMENDED. I DETECTED AN ANNOYANCE IN HIS PA'S HANDLING OF THIS WHEN I ASKED FOR FOLLOWUP TESTS. WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST I DO ABOUT THIS SITUATION? MY RESEARCH INDICATED THAT THERE CAN BE LONG TERM HEALTH PROBLEMS AND NO TREATMENT IS AVAILABLE.

Hello,
Thanks for your query.

In individual case reports patients with high serum cobalt concentrations who undergo revision surgery with ceramic–plastic revisions experience a rapid fall in serum cobalt. However it is better to go for follow up tests. There is no harm to get another opinion.
