default
Posted on Tue, 9 Jun 2015
Question: Dr. I have no family history of baldness. My hairs do not shred. But I had episode of bronchitis when I was 13 and of typhoid the previous year. My hairs dont grow back after the illness. I dont have anaemia. But I recently got my vit d blood level checked. It was 10.65 ng/ ml. + With the hair problem I have wide hips that do not match my normal BMI : ht: 170 cm wt: 75 kg. + my feet, arms, and face skin appearance is hyperpigmented, dull, kind of greyish brown, than rest of the body. I feel weak, sluggish most off the time.Is it related to my low vit d levels or there could be some other reason also? I need to mention that I had been on my major depressive disorder treatment from the past five years including lithium with antideps. But now its been over 2 months for my med been stopped. My blood haemogram and blood chemistry reports all were normal as I got it checked once.

Brief Answer:
Your problem is probably due to low vitamin D level

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM
I appreciate your concerns.
I have gone through your question.
Your BMI is just above the normal level..Only do exercise to control that.
Your decreased growth of hair is telogen effluvium. That occurs after chronic diseases.Dont worry. It normalizes with time.
But now your main problem is due to Low vitamin D level and long standing lithium therapy.
Lithium is stopped so these will not aggravate.
Start taking vitamin dtablets consulting your doctor.
Hope this will help you.
Regards.

Brief Answer:
No it does not cause growth delay if taken after 18 years.

Detailed Answer:
After 18 year of age no drug can cause growth delay.
No beard may be due to hormonal imbalance.
That might be caused by antidepressant and lithium..
It is loss of Libido.
