Brief Answer:
It is without cholesterol.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for asking on Health care magic forum.

I have gone through your query. Katla which is also known as major carp fish is with out cholesterol. Total omega 3 fatty acid content of it is 0.6. From that DHA content is 0.1. EPA is 0.2 and LNA is 0.3 from 100 gram.

Total fat content per 100 gram is 2 gram.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.

Thanks.

Hi Doctor....regards and thanks for you answer...have a few of my questions in tune with the same...

1. Which part of the Katla fish has the XXXXXXX DPA/EPA- I had heard that its just below the skin on the red flesh....please ratify if I am correct...also apart from that part...what are the other parts of the fish enriched in the same?

2. How much percentage of DHA/EPA gets destroyed on
a. Moderately frying the Katla Fish
b. Boiling the Katla fish.
We either boil or fry prior to eating..so the question.

3.To maintain an adequately healthy life in terms of good heart, optimal anti inflammation , a sound lipid profile, a sound brain etc, apart from an RDA recommended intake of all other protien-vitamin-minerals, what quantum of DHA/EPA from Katla fish or other sources should be taken daily by
a. Myself- 40 Years-Male-Heavy Smoker
b. My spouse- 40 years-Female- heavy smoker
c. My son- Male 10 Years-Student.

4. FlaxSeeds/Flaxseed Oil have highest veg source of ALA (alphalinolenic acid) and we consume daily. What percentage of ALA gets converted to DHA/EPA by the body for usage?

5.Whether ALA has any "direct benefit" to the body like DHA/EPA...if yes what quantum of ALA should be taken daily from Flaxseeds apart from Direct DHA/EPA intake from Katla Fish for all three of us above? (we avoid salmon-tuna etc due to mercury contamination)

6. Whether Omega 3 from other veg sources like guava, spinach etc which we receive in the form of Linolenic acid has at all any utility?

7. This is one offbit question- shall be thankful if you answer this.
100gm of Chicken Liver has over 500% of dietary cholesterol while its equally stuffed heavily with other nutrients. Should we three of us- have a chicken liver daily intake of say 20gms a day?
Or at least if our son can then what quantum of chicken liver should he preserve daily? Currently our son is at normal cholesterol levels while we both are on the borderline within the upper normal limits of LDL and triglycerides.

Thanking you...best regards.

Additionally...
8.Do DHA-EPA and ALA have any contributory effect on glow and shine of skin...if yes...by what percentage..and apart from them...what are the key top nutrients for skin shine and glow?
9.What should be the recommended size of "Whole-Katla-fish to get the Highest Ratio of DHA : Saturated Fat or DHA :Trans Fat?

Finally...can you revert me on full nutritional info of Katla fish?

Brief Answer:
Hi and welcome again.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for your follow up query.

1. The fatty part or soft part is usually high in omega 3 (DHA/EPA) content. It is usually under part. Skin should be better removed before cooking as contaminants are more in skin. Skin is also high in omega 3.
2.Frying can destroy almost all omega 3 from fish. Moderate frying also will decrease 40 to 60 percent of it. You can do steaming or grilling or baking which will be better option.Boiling also wont destroy omega 3 much.
3.You can have 100 grams of fish daily. Other omega 3 you might get from other foods like vegetables.
4,5.Flax seeds also are rich in omega 3. From this 8% of ALA is converted into EPA and 0-4% into DHA. You can take 20 grams per day. Even ALA has direct benefits to the body also.
6.Guava and spinach has very high content of omega 3. Raw guava has 329mg and spinach has more than 2000. Linolenic acids present in them some percent is converted into EPA and DHA also. You can consume it.
7.Chicken liver has very high cholesterol content but high in vitamins. Every day intake is not good even for kids. You can have it once per week. Kids may have it twice per week.
8.DHA and EPA when taken in whole food (described) has direct effect in giving glowing and hydrated skin. It also helps in getting shiny and lustrous hair. Nutrients like B complex, zinc and vitamin C, A and E are good for skin shine and glow.
9.You can have 100 grams of katla fish a day. Abdominal part and fatty parts will be rich in omega 3.
-100 grams of katla fish gives 127 calories.
-Proteins 18 to 20 gram.
-fat 2-4 grams.
-vitamin b12 25%
-Vitamin D 247%
-Calcium 4%
-Vitamin c 2%
-Iron 6%
-Vitamin B6 10%
-Magnesium 7%.

Hope this may help you.Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.

Thank you Doctor for the detailed replies that made many things clear....a couple more hereby...

1.With regards to query no 9 in the earlier set of questions, what I exactly wanted to understand...that in the market- the size of Katla whole fish ranges from 1.5Kgs- 10Kgs.
If I look forward to having 100gms of Katla fish per head per day, which of the would You advise for the best option....
a.100 gms of Katla fish per head per day from the one that weighs heavy (Like 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 kgs) Or
b.100 gms of Katla fish from the one that weighs about 1.5kg Or
c.100 gms of Katla fish from the one that weighs below 1kg.

Why I am asking you this is while I understand that heavier fish is more fatty, at the same time I am equally apprehensive that heavier fish will have More Saturated Fat, a part of will subsequently get converted to cholesterol by the body.....so which of the above is Optimal?

2. In the market, I have come across a brand called "Total Supreme Eggs" that has in it the printed nutritional information of 900mg of DHA per 100gms.( The hens are fed Flaxseeds )......Each egg weighs around 55gms...which boils down to the fact that each egg has 465mg of DHA. My query is ....

a.Is this likely to be authentic? ....and what percentage of the same should I consider to be authentic ?
b.Eggs in general to my info has 161mg of Dietary Cholesterol per 100gms....now looking ahead to the DHA Content of these kind of eggs as I mentioned, ....Can each of us (myself-spouse-son) have One semi-boiled such egg per day? (by now you know our details)
c.Since we are semi boiling the egg , what percentage of the DHA is likely to get destroyed?
Best Regards,
XXXX

and finally...
3. Is it safe for ALL of us to have these eggs raw ?
best regards..

Missed this out....as you advised to have chicken liver once weekly for us..and twice weekly for our son....
a.what is your recommended weight(gms) of chicken liver consumtion per per week for each of us, and whether
b.the recommended weekly weight can be broken down to daily consumption.....I meant....for example- if you recommended 100gms per week for each of us....if it would be safe to have 14-15gms per day.
best regards.

Brief Answer:
Hi and Welcome again.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for your follow up query.

1. It is better to take small fishes- 1kg or 1.5kg ones as bigger ones will have higher amount of impurities like mercury even though omega 3 will be higher.

2.You can take the eggs you mentioned, but the poultry wont be feed only by flax seed. So saturated fat will be present. When fed on flax seed eggs will have 6 to 8 fold increase in omega 3. So having such semi boiled eggs on alternative days will be ok if your cholesterol levels are normal. Semi boiling doesn't destroy much of omega 3. Only 10 to 15 % only possibly destroyed.

3. Having raw eggs is not safe as it can be source of infection.

4. You can have 14 to 15 grams of chicken liver per day. But usually it is not possible practically. It is ok if you have it weekly also because vitamins and most essential nutrients are stored in your liver from this. So daily intake wont be needed.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
