How Long Does Plasma Concentration Take To Reach A Steady State?

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Sep 2015
Question: Hello,
I am on Klonopin 4 mg, Lexapro 10 mg, Keppra 1000mg and Solian (amisulpride) 100 mg.
My psychiatrist decided to rise the dose of Lexapro from 5 mg to 10 mg three days ago. I am intermediate metabolizer for cyp 2d6 and cyp 2c19.
I would like to know how long it takes to Lexapro (taking into account that i was already in 5 mg and my metabolism) to work and to reach steady plasma concentration state.
Thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
It may take about 3-4 day to reach steady plasma concentration state.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
It is a wise decision to ask your health related query here.
Lexapro (Escitalopram) is an SSRI drug metabolized in liver by CYP 2d6, CYP2c9 and a little by CYP3a enzymes.

In an intermediate metabolizer it takes about 7 days time to reach steady plasma state of this drug in a drug naive patient.

Since you are already on 5 mg of Lexapro, keeping in mind plasma binding about 56%, bioavailabilty of about 80 %, half life of about 30 hours and rate of accumulation about 2 times the initial dose, it may take 3-4 days to reach a steady plasma state with 10 mg of dose.

I hope it answers your query. I wish you all the best.
