Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

First of all I would like to congratulate for quitting alcohol. Excessive alcohol abuse may lead to liver damage (that is manifested with high ALT and AST levels). If the patient doesn't quit liver damage will lead to liver failure and decompensated liver cirrhosis.

If you were my patient I would recommend doing:
- Abdominal ultrasound
- Prothrombin time and INR nivel
This will help to evaluate the present function of the liver.

If the liver damage isn't severe you will be normal again in a reasonable amount of time after quitting alcohol. Please keep in mind that it may requires 2-6 months that your AST and ALT levels will come back normal. Meantime you shouldn't drink at all. Moreover you should follow a balanced diet reach in fresh fruits and vegetables and poor in fatty animal products.

If the damage is severe quitting alcohol will help to prevent further liver damage but you will not be back normal.

Hope this was of help!
Wish you health!
