How Long After Breakthrough Bleeding And Pain Can Levlen Be Resumed?
Question: Stopped taking Levlen because I was experiencing breakthrough bleeding and doctor suggested taking a break from taking contraception. Within the first week experienced severe pain and heavy bleeding. The doctor perscribed Primolut to stop the bleeding and an ultrasound. The ultrasound came back normal and all symptoms have cleared. How long until I should start taking Levlen again? And also, can I continue taking Primolut while I start a new blister pack of Levlen?

As the aim of giving a break from levlen was to re-establish the hormonal balance with levlen again, so a break of at least 2 months is required to overcome the breakthrough bleeding. Primolut -n should be continued for atleast 10days and then stopped to allow withdrawal in next 7 days after the last dose of primolut-n.
For the next month you may practice either barrier contraception or you can switch to a progesterone only pill like CERAZETTE from day 2 of your next cycle.
