How Effective Is Hexilak Silicone Gel In Filling Up Crater Like Dents?

Posted on Mon, 7 Mar 2016
Question: Hi, I had a 2 pimples on my nose that were there for over a year. I went to a Dr and they used RF to burn the 2 pimples. 1 of them is ok , but when they burnt the second one , i think they burnt too much and now that has created a small crater like dent on my nose. Its not too big but its still annoying. They have given me a gel named Hexilak and said it will take around 1 to 2 months to fill completely. But while I have been researching, it says in some places that the crater like dents do not get filled up usually. Please advice. Thanks

Brief Answer:
Expect it to fill from 50% to 80%

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Thank you for the query. It would have been better with a picture of the scar.

You read it well. Most such silicone products which use heparin, allantoin would be able to assist natural healing but would not participate in 100% healing. How much does it cover the deep scar depends on the depth, how long its been there, other inherent factors within you as well.
Though I cannot tell you how much percent it will depend from 50% to 80%. Never expect a god given skin.

Is there a way I can send you the Picture of the scar ? The doctor said it could form another scab and then it will be ok. But I don't think it will form another scab. It looks like a permanent scar to me. The doctor also said it is likely to fill up because it's not too deep. I would prefer to send you a picture so you can take a look at it.

Brief Answer:
Grade 3 to 4 V shaped ice pick scar

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for the picture.

It is a v shaped scar which we call it rocket v cut.
With the treatment as above it may not likely to fill more than 50%.
I think you should get a second opinion with a Dermatologist about fillers if you want satisfactory results. There are lasers as well which give better results.I think specialist dermatologist will be able to guide you well for satisfactory results.

If you are ok with minor filling by stimulating collagen, then you can go ahead with the above mentioned therapy.
