Brief Answer:
Management of scabies

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HCM

Scabies should be treated with topical scabicidal agent like Permethrin 5% (Elimite) ointment. The ointment should be applied neck down and left overnight before washing-showering. The ointment can be used in anyone above 2 months of age. All the members in the house should be treated, even though they do not have symptoms.

You can repeat treatment after 7 days of initial treatment if still, you can see living mites. Persistent itching is not indicative of treatment failure. Itching can persist up to 4 weeks even after mites are killed, due to an allergic reaction.

You can use soothing Calamine lotion and Cetirizine 10 mg once daily to relieve itching.

All the clothes, bedding, pillows, plush toys etc need to be washed in hot water.
Vaccum and shampoo carpets thoroughly.
Please make sure everyone in the family is treated simultaneously.

Permethrin requires a prescription, for which you will have to visit your primary provider.

Hope this answers your questions
