Question: How can you treat high levels of magnesium in the body

I took alpha lipoic acid and magnesium supplement 250mg have been having palpitations all day this is the only thing different in my daily routine. I am wondering how long before it wears off

Hello,
Welcome to HCM and thanks for your query.
I understand your concern.
Palpitations can be due to a number of causes including anxiety. A single dose of Magnesium supplement will not lead to hypermagnesemia.
It is possible that you are allergic to one of the components of the supplements.
If you have been talking Magnesium suppliments for some time, it is possible that your Magnesium level is elevated.
A simple lab test would reveal your blood Magnesium level. Only if you are found to have high level should you take corrective measures.
Please go to the ER or your doctor and have an EKG taken. It will show the reason behind the palpitation.
Treatment of hypermagnesemia is Calcium which counteracts the effects and diuretics or even dialysis in severe cases.
