Brief Answer:
Information

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

A lump under the armpit can be a number of different things, but it should be checked out.

If it is in the armpit itself, it is likely to be a lymph node although there are other possibilities. Below the arm pit it could be a benign fatty tumor called a lipoma. In the breast, it can be, depending on the depth, a sebaceous cyst if near the surface, or a cyst or growth in the breast. There are other possibilities as well.

So, while it may be innocuous, the only way to know is to go in to be seen. If you have a gynecologist, I recommend going in to see her or him. A general surgeon, if you have one, can check it out too. For the sake of getting it looked at quickly, if you don't have a gynecologist, go in to be seen by your primary doctor. If they have a full schedule for awhile and you won't be able to get in for a couple of weeks, then go to an urgent care clinic.

If you go to an urgent care clinic, request specifically to see a physician so that you don't end up being seen by a PA or NP (physician's assistant or nurse practitioner) as evaluating and diagnosing a lump requires a greater fund of knowledge (therefore see a real doctor).

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can help further.
