Brief Answer:
You require detailed investigation including ECG and echocardiography

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
A chest X ray shows the approximate size of the heart, the orientation and location and any enlargement of chambers in case of heart problems. It can also show valve related problems which is reflected by a pattern of heart enlargement. Fluid collections around the heart is also appreciated if in significant amount. Any narrowing or enlargement of the aorta can also be made out on a chest X ray.

What cannot be made out on chest
1. Problems associated with heart rhythm
2. Problems related to coronary artery blood flow
3. Heart wall motion and precise valve functions
4. Pumping action of the heart and flow velocities.

Since you have reported heart rates of more than 100 per minute therefore it is important to get evaluated by more detailed investigations like ECG, echocardiography, heart electrophysiological studies.

Absence of nausea or sweating does not mean that you are safe. The electrical pulse generation of the heart and pumping activity are to be evaluated.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Brief Answer:
Please get Holter monitoring done for peace of mind

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

I have come across many patients who have a sudden increase in heart rate only when visiting a clinic or undergoing medical procedures. This is in anticipation of the discussion that will follow while at a clinic or just the anxiety surrounding the entire situation. It is important to know if you are facing similar episodes of anxiety that shoots up your heart rate in the absence of any medical condition.

Since you have got ECG showing fast heart beat, there is a simple investigation which you can choose to undergo to confirm doubts about your fluctuation in heart rate and also for peace of mind.

There is Holter monitoring done in patients whose heart rate and rhythm needs to be evaluated in detail. A Holter monitor is a machine that continuously records the heart's rhythms. This is a small credit card like device is worn to measure the heart rate and pattern over 24 hours at the doctors office. You can go about doing your daily work while this device keeps recording your heart rate.

At the end of 24 hours the device is given back to the clinic and the ECG and heart rate over 24 hours is evaluated using a computer. If your Holter monitoring is normal then the only reason you have sudden increased heart beats is anxiety.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Dr.Vivek
