Hi, I’m 21 Years Old And Had Just Gone Through

Question: Hi, I’m 21 years old and had just gone through a cystoscopy after getting recurrent UTI symptoms with negative test results. The result was I am extremely petite and my urine was injuring my urethra. My doctor explained that he dilated me while I was still under the anesthesia. It has been 3 days since the procedure and I’m still bleeding and feeling a burning sensation when I pee. I was told these symptoms would go away after 1 or 2 days but it is now 3 days & I see no difference. I called my doctor yesterday morning & he said it was normal and that it will get better but it hasn’t. Also, the symptoms keep coming and going. I’m getting desperate and frustrated. What does this mean? Why are my symptoms not going away? How much longer will I feel this?

Brief Answer:
May take 3-7 days to heal.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The symptoms of burning sensation and bleeding are due to the dilatation procedure that was done. The urethral lining may take 3-7 days to heal properly. Increasing the fluid intake will help. You need to avoid all the hot and spicy. Taking a urinary anti spasmodic will also help. This feeling will gradually reduce in next few days. There is nothing to worry.

Ok thank you. My only concern is it’s been 4 days now and the blood doesn’t seem to lighten up. I have only 3 more days until I hit the full 7 days, shouldn’t something be getting better? I still see the same stream of blood in the toilet when I pee and when I wipe. Also, i do have pills that essentially “numb” me so I can pee easier, but is that supposed to stop the bleeding? Cause it comes and goes and it’s very confusing.

Brief Answer:
It will heal gradually.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.

The bleeding is due to minor damage to urethra while dilatation. It should heal in 5-7 days. You can get some medicines like Pause - MF prescribed to decrease the bleeding and discomfort.
Hope my answer is helpful.
