Hi I Ordered A Male Hormone Panel A Few Days

Question: Hi

I ordered a male hormone panel a few days ago as I have been feeling fairly bad for a few months.

Sluggish, constantly tired, very little libido and in the last couple of weeks lots of dizziness on and off throughout the day.

My results came back and I would just like you to take a look at them. The lab said that my thyroid was well out of place and that my testosterone was low. How low would you say my testosterone is for a 23 year old male? and how dangerous do my thyroid levels look?

Thank you

Brief Answer:
About underactive thyroid and low testosterone;

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I've checked your reports...

There is severely underactive thyroid which needs to start treatment as soon as possible.

Low testosterone and high prolactin can be due to very high TSH (Underactive thyroid).
Once TSH is corrected, they tend to get back to normal ranges and do not need additional treatment.
It needs about 4-6 weeks treatment with Levothyroxine supplementation to improve the symptoms you reported (however, the treatment duration is generally quite prolonged).

After 6 weeks recheck the TSH, testosterone and prolactin again to be sure they are coming within the normal ranges.

Testosterone should be at the upper normal range for your age.

Hope the information will help. let me know if I can assist you further.

Best wishes,
Dr.Mirjeta

Thank you :) that has been of much help. Do my levels look like they pose any kind of serious risk of developing myxedema coma?

Also as a side question, my bloods 6 months ago came back completely clear for thyroid. Apparently my thyroid was functioning normally back then. What is the possible causes of such a large crash of my thyroid in such a short period of time?

I have ran extensive anabolic steroid cycles in the past as they are legal for possession in the UK. This was why I was sort of worried about my testosterone levels being low.

Would you consider this to be an urgent problem? E.g should I call my surgery for an on the day GP appointment or can this wait a few weeks for a non-rushed, booked appointment?

Thanks

Also is this likely causing my dizziness? because the off balanced, dizzy feeling can be pretty intense at times. I also have occasional tachycardia which I'm not sure if this could be influencing.

I am fairly concerned about myxedema coma simply because I've been feeling increased dizziness and slightly disorientated over the last week or so. But I also think that I have some kind of infection too as I'm coughing a lot, so that could be causing the disorientated feeling :)

Brief Answer:
About hypothyroidism;

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
I would not suggest to wait for more than a couple of days! It sounds interesting that 6 months ago the TSH has been within normal ranges, it takes years to Hashimoto thyroiditis to cause such a severe hypothyroidism.
The symptoms you reported are due to high TSH, they will improve within 6 weeks after starting treatment.
Best wishes,

Thanks, been a great help.

In your opinion, how dangerous are my levels? I just read about someone online going into a myxoedema coma with TSH at just 52... So naturally I'm very concerned about having TSH of 100.

Thank you

Brief Answer:
About high TSH;

Detailed Answer:
Well, it is very individual, we find TSH over 150 mui/ ml without symptoms, or myxedematous coma with TSH 50.
There is not a clear cut off.
Usually over 100 ccan be dangerous.
