What Does My ECG Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 14 Jun 2016
Question: Hi I have reasently experienced very fast heart rate of about 190bpm with severe chest pain. I spent two nights in hospital and came home today, I also have an appointment to be seeing a cardiologist. I have had an ablation in the past for a type of SVT but they could not ablate the other arythmia as they could not induce it during the procedure. However I have two print outs of ECG recording and I have no idea what they represent/mean and I was hoping I could get an explanation of what they mean, weather they are normal or abnormal and if so in what way. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
You need to get an angiography done.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. I have checked your ECG and although it has not be taken during a bout of SVT, it is fairly conclusive.

The stimulus for the heart beating arises from a point in the wall of the heart and then the stimulus passes down a conductive pathway. SVT or PSVT is a condition characterized by re-entry of this stimulus back into the same or a parallel pathway causing the heart rate to go up suddenly.

Ablation of the accessory pathway usually resolves the problem but in your case the concern lies elsewhere. The ECG shows ST depression which indicates ischemia or lack of adequate blood flow to the heart. When the bouts of SVT occur the oxygen demand of the heart goes up and hence you get the chest pains.

You need to get an angiography done. It will show the degree and number of blockages in the coronary blood supply. Based on the reports angioplasty or other suitable interventions need to be taken.
