Posted on Mon, 2 Mar 2015
Question: Hi,
I had unprotected intercourse on the 3rd day of my periods thinking that it would be safe and yet took an ipill within 48 hours that is on 5th day of periods. I was still bleeding from my periods on 4th and 5th day. Now its been 13 days since my expected date of next periods but its not yet come. Are there any chances of having conceived? How soon can a home test give accurate result? I am very stressed please advise.

Brief Answer:
Home pregnancy test gives accurate result 15 days after unprotected sex

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations as below.

1. Since you had unprotected sexual intercourse on day 3 and took iPill within 48 hours, the chances of having a pregnancy is less.

2. Taking iPill can cause early or delayed periods for the next two cycles and it is possible that your periods are late due to this reason also.

3. Stress is one of the major factors causing delayed periods in women who are too worried and have anxiety related stress.

4. In the rare possibility of you being pregnant, its best to do a home pregnancy test right now. The home pregnancy test is more than 97 percent accurate when dose at least 15 days after probable unprotected sexual intercourse.

5. You might also have other conditions like polycystic ovaries and thyroid disorders that can cause delayed periods.

6. Frequent consumption of iPill in the past, more than once in 3 months can mess up your hormones and cause irregular periods with possibility of cysts in ovary, ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome and infertility.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
