Question: Hello, My doctor has me on wellbutrin for depression 150 XL and I need to add something for anxiety. I currently take zoloft and it is no longer doing the trick for me. She advised me to go on Lexapro 5 mg - I tried it the other day in place of the zoloft and the side effects were so bad so I believe it would be better for me taper off the zoloft while i start the lexapro. Does this make sense? Should I do 25 of zoloft and 2.5 of lexapro together for a few days? How long does it take? I am VERY sensitive to meds.

Brief Answer:
It will take a week before the side effects are over

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

First of all I like to inform you that if Lexapro is next option instead of Zoloft there is no need to keep both medications together as both of them belong to SSRI group and generally do not cause any/serious withdrawal symptoms.

Conssidering this fact Zoloft can be stopped and Lexapro can be started without keeping both the medications together.

In addition the initial side effects associated with SSRI group (read Lexapro) can continue for three to seven days and often remit spontaneously with passage of time. Considering this fact it is important to hold on for few days before side effects are over/diminished.

I hope this helps you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks and regards.
