Having Intense Pain In Abdomen On Left Side. Lift Heavy Weights. What To Do?

Question: Dear Doctor,

Greetings.

I have been having this slight pain on the left side of my abdomen, an inch away from the navel, usual above the level of navel (but at times below the level too). I have been having this since nov 2012. (This is not a continuous pain, but i experience it few times a day. This is not cause any comfort, but this is something i can notice, enough to get me worried). In the month of Nov 2012, i have had a very nasty pain around the same area of the abdomen and it was persistent for almost a week. I had gone on empty stomach all that day and took a flour based snacks and an aerated drink along in the evening. A few minutes later i was feeling a little uncomfortable around the abdomen side and ignored it initially thinking it could be due to the formation of flatulence bubble and was expecting it to go away in a few hours. It persisted. After a week, i had aconsulted my family doctor who suggested that it could have been a good bout of infection in the guts and suggested me an antibiotic (whose name i do not remember now, and another medicine called Econorm). the pain did subside in a couple of days. My family doctor did mention me to go to a specialist should this pain reoccur. Although this pain has never re-occured in that magnitude,it never-the-less occur in very very low intensity almost daily, as to the point of being called chronic. I have always been wanting to go to a GE specialist (based on what i have read on the net, this could also be a colon related issue..and i hope not that it is colon cancer). My digestive system has been fine so far. I can provide you with any additional details should you need them.
I should also make a mention of the fact that i am into Powerlifting (Not bodybuilding). I lift heavy weights, with proper gear and precaution. However, i am currently on a month's break from this hobby. Co-incidentally, i was also not lifting a couple of months prior to Nov 2012 , when i started having this chronic pain)
thank you - XXXXX- +91.0000

Hi Mr XXXXXXX
Possibly you have a muscular pain or an sensitive intestine causing this mild persistent pain. Need not worry as unlikely it could be a serious problem as you have no weight loss, loss of appetite, bleeding in stools.
Still worthwhile getting an sonography and stool examination done to alley your anxiety.
When you discontinue powerlifting then it can cause muscle cramps which can explain your symptoms. Also maintain a healthy eating and sleeping habits and a good lifestyle which will help you in abetting the symptoms related to sensitive (irritable ) intestine.
Hope this answers your query.
Best wishes.

Dear Mr XXXXXXX

Thank you so much for your quick response. I have a few follow-up questions, kindly help me with answering them.

As i mentioned above, i started experiencing this issue since November of 2012.
However, a couple of months prior to this (september 2012), i did spot blood in the stool on two occasions (just two occasions on two consecutive days, and never after that).
However i must set the context right for this. I was away from home around Sept 2012 and was on living off just (maggi) noodles for my food almost for 5-6 days. (Noodles only and nothing else for breafast, lunch and dinner). My digestion and bowel movements were also not very proper for these 5-6 days. (I am a strict vegetarian (with eggs and milk included),but whenver i am away from home for short period of time , i avoid eating outside food and prefer to cook only noodles as i assumed them to be safe.

However, this blood in stool never occured anytime there after (sept 2012). And once i started having my regular diet, my bowel movements have been normal.

Can i understand the possible reasons for the blood in the stool..even if it was just a couple of times only?

I have (or had in the past) no loss of apetite or any weight loss at all. I feel fine in all other aspects except this slight chronic pain as i mentioned earlier.

Thank you once again for being very prompt on replying me.

best regards

Hi Mr XXXXXXX
Only two spots of bleeding is unlikely to be a cause of concern.
It could be a small fissure or piles in anal area causing transient bleeding, I guess not much to worry.
So I feel you need not worry and follow the advise given by me earlier and consult a gastroenterologist if you are still not better.
Best wishes..
