Question: Hi, I have been prescribed XXXXXXX lotion for a skin condition on my upper arms(backside). I have very small red marks which look like acne. I don't feel itchy or any irritation there. I read about the side effects & also that this lotion is used to cure dandruff. Can u please tell leif this is the right prescription?

Hello, I have uploaded the photo for which I ve been suggested to use XXXXXXX lotion. i am writing below all the medicines & for the reasons they are prescribed below.

Xerina lotion for discolouration of underarm skin & inner thighs.
Mintop 5% lotion for hair fall. XXXXXXX lotion for the arms.

I have PCOD & thyroid. I have excess hair growth on face & body as well. Recently have gone through pregnancy. My baby is 15months old. during pregnancy was suffering from gestational diabetes. These spots on my arms are there since many years now. My underarm skin has darkened maybe since I was using hair removing cream few years back. Have switched to waxing since few years. Thats why Xerina lotion has been prescribed. Can I use Gluco-C for this? The back side of my neck has also darkened. I have developed more than 10 warts on my neck & face. I am going in to get them removed soon.

Please guide.

Regards,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Having keratosis pilaris, acanthosis nigricans & skin tags

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I have reviewed all the attached photographs and you are having keratosis pilaris on the arms, acanthosis nigricans on the back of neck and underarms and skin tags on your neck.
All these diseases are related to insulin resistance, hypothyroidism and PCOD.
If you are overweight try to reduce it as will reduce the discolouration on the neck and underarms and will decrease the frequency of occurence of skin tags.
It has been seen that in keratosis pilaris treatment has not been very effective.
Normally I recommend my patients to apply steroid salicylic acid combination on these spots twice daily followed by application of a good moisturising lotion over the entire arms twice daily.
This needs to be continued for few weeks to show any response.
Steroidal preparations are prescription drugs and you need to see the doctor in person to get them.
Moreover get your fasting blood sugar and fasting insulin levels checked.
If they are deranged do take treatment for these as it will improve your other signs like darkening of skin and skin tags.
Xerina lotion is fine for the treatment of dark skin and skin tags need to be removed.
I don't think XXXXXXX lotion will be effective in the treatment of red spots on your arms.
I hope to have answered your query and would be happy to clarify any further doubts.
Regards
Dr Asmeet
