Does The Intake Of Valtrex Have An Effect On The Gonorrhea Test Result?

Question: I got tested after 5 months of a unprotected vaginal sex, , All the test came back negative minus HSV 2 , two weeks before the test the GYN diagnose me with HSV 2 and prescribed me Valtrex, only for when I felt I had symptoms for an outbreak since I felt like that again I decided to do a full std panel test just to confirm it was only HSV 2 that I had, my concerned now if that if taking valtrex before 5 days before I took the test I didn’t took valtrex for 24 hours the test would that have affected my gonorrhea and Chlamydia test ( They were swab test )? I asked the GYN and she told me no. Is this correct.

No, the valtrex would have no effect on testing for chlamydia or gonorrhea.

Infections can be caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi or parasites.

Chlamydia and gonorrhea are caused bacteria and valtrex is an antiviral , this means it can treat viral infections but would have no effect on a bacterial infection (or fungal or parasitic).

Because it would not affect bacterial infections in any way, it would not have an effect on checking for either of these.
