Does Mild Head Injury Aggravate The Degenerative Changes Of Spine?

default
Posted on Tue, 5 May 2015
Question: A roll up door fell on top of my head, the sensor was not working and upon impact to my head the door went up. I felt the sudden impact but didn't feel unusual that day. After a few months, the upper back pain started with some breathing problems and it came out from an MRI that I have degenerative disc disease and disc herniation causing spinal cord stenosis at several points from thoracic to lumbar. In your medical opinion, the accident caused or triggered the disc herniation and spinal stenosis?

Brief Answer:
Accident is not likely to cause disc herniation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The accident that you had could cause an acute head injury but is not likely to cause or aggravate the degenerative changes of the spine. The changes induced by the accident would have caused the immediate symptoms and the pain in the back would not have started after a few months.
This is just a co incidence that your symptoms have started after the accident.
I hope this answers your query.
