Does Intake Of Zoloft Help In Curing Depression, Anxiety And OCD?

default
Posted on Mon, 2 May 2016
Question: Hello

I have asked you repeatedly about my daughter XXXXXXX who is an ice dancer. She suffers from depressions, anxiety and OCD. She upped her dosage of Zoloft 10 100 mg as suggested. However she is still having extreme issues getting motivated and can't manage to get her self energized to train, and most likely is going to quit at this point. She is in behavioral therapy. What type of treatment do you recommend for a 19 year old college student who has issues with dealing with pressure and can't manage their emotions or responisibilties.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question. I remember you and your daughter well. Let me give you my thoughts.

Zoloft is a good drug for the treatment of depression, anxiety, and OCD. Her current dose of 100mg is actually only a middle-range dose for this medication. OCD in particular requires high dose antidepressants for adequate treatment. Before switching drugs, or even before adding additional drugs, her current medication should be optimized. I recommend increasing her dose to 150mg, with the aim of reaching 200 mg in a couple weeks as tolerated. This would be the maximum dose, and would give her a real shot at adequate dosing and treatment for her multiple conditions.

Abilify is a good augmentation medication with few side effects. It can cause akathisia, or restlessness, so should be used in your daughter with caution. Before adding Abilify I would've increased her Zoloft up to a goal of 200 mg daily first, but it may be helpful even now. You may get a prescription for the above from your local doctor.
