Does Intake Of Duphaston Affect Pregnancy?

Question: My fiance is living in the Philippines and her Dr. has just prescribed Duphaston. I am very concerned as she does not have any of the indications for an at risk pregnancy. It is her 1st time pregnant. It seems they prescribe it there like a general preventative rather than to treat a specific concern. I don't like this at all and I know they don't do that here in the US. Messing around with hormones is not to be taken lightly in my opinion. I am concerned this may cause possible spontaneous abortion of increase risk for birth defects.

Thank you for your reply Dr. XXXXXXX It seems they prescribe it like a vitamin or insurance policy for miscarriage there. Based on what I have read it seems that during a normal pregnancy with no history of miscarriage that taking Duphaston does not have any proven benefit to to prevent miscarriage.

Is it your opinion that she is at no greater risk of miscarriage by continuing her normal pregnancy without taking this? Also in your opinion is there potential to do more harm than good to the baby by taking this if not indicated?

You are right. She absolutely needs no such suppliments and better to avoid as duphaston might do harm than good.
