Posted on Wed, 8 Apr 2015
Question: hi
I'm 9 days late for my period which has never happened before. I've done a pregnancy test and it's negative. I have been having sex and i take a pill (postinor2) everytime i do. I've taken it 4 times in the last two weeks. Could this be the reason why i'm late?

Brief Answer:
Most likely cause for the delay in periods is the Postinor.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.

I read your query. It appears like the most likely cause for the delay in periods is the Postinor.
Postinor taken in the second half of the cycle can delay your periods. That too you have taken it four times. It is definitely bound cause irregularity in the menstrual cycle. When did you last take this Postinor?

It is extremely unlikely that you may be pregnant. Yet if you don’t get your period by next week, do the blood pregnancy test. Blood pregnancy test is more sensitive and reliable than urine pregnancy test. I am asking you to do it as Postinor is only up to 95% effective. If this test is negative take Progesterone for withdrawal bleeding.

To avoid such unnecessary stress I advise you to consult your doctor and start regular contraception like hormonal contraception or have an intrauterine device fitted as they are more effective than Postinor in preventing pregnancy.
It is wise to use barrier contraception like Condom to protect yourself from sexually transmitted diseases.

I hope I have answered to your satisfaction. If you have any further queries do contact me through healthcare magic

Brief Answer:
Do the blood pregnancy test on Tuesday/Wednesday.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
You mean you took it just 3 days ago. If you don't get your periods do the blood pregnancy test on Tuesday/wednesday. If negative, take progesterone for withdrawal bleeding.
