Brief Answer:
Need more information.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
welcome to HCM.

Generally bronchitis does not cause hearing loss but sometimes the infection may spread to the middle ear causing otitis media (middle ear infection) for which you may experience temporary hearing loss.

Or Z-pack antibiotic (azithromycin) can also cause problems with hearing but it is also temporary and may subside with discontinuation of the drug.

So, let me know if you have any more symptoms inside ear apart from hearing loss,

Do you feel pain or discharge or ringing from ear?
Do you feel that you ear are clogged?

Kindly get back to me with this information

Regards,

Thank you Dr. Kabra. I had the hearing loss just prior to the Z-pack. I have used a Z-pack inthe past and never had a problem. I can hear well when I place my radio ear buds in my ear for public radio news, but oddly, I can not hear conversational speech. I have no pain or discharge. I work as a paramedic part time in a big ER and one er resident said my left ear drum has some opaqueness to it.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Get your ear examined by ENT surgeon.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your follow-up query.

It could be because some middle ear infection or fluid retention inside ear canal but one can comment exactly only after the complete ear examination done with otoscope.

Since you have difficulty in hearing conversational speech, you will need a repeat ear examination done by the ENT surgeon with some relevant ENT tests like PTA (Pure Tone Audiogram),Tympanogram (Impedance Audiogram) with Tuning Fork Tests to rule out whether you have a Conductive Hearing Loss (CHL) or Sensori-neural Hearing Loss (SNHL).

Regular steam inhalation is one of the best and simplest ways to keep the Eustachian Tubes healthy and functioning.

Take this along with your medications id you are taking.

I hope that I have answered your queries.

If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
