Question: I am a 47 year old female. For a little under a month I have been experiencing lower back pain. Pain started out feeling like a sore muscle which hurt when bending. The soreness left and I am now left with a tight stiff feeling and at times a deep ache in my lower right side Is it common at my age? my right hip. I was seen by a Dr yesterday and was told most likely arthritis of spine and given a pack of steroids for the week. I was told to come in three weeks if pain is still there and they will recommend a physical therapist. I was told that they do not offer any type of scans/x-rays until physical therapy has been tried. My question is does arthritis present as this tight, stiff uncomfortable feeling which can be achy at times?

Brief Answer:
Looks like Lumbar Spondylosis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have read your details and to me it looks like lumbar spondylosis.
In my patients , I start with pain killers like etoricoxib ( 90 mg at night) + Muscle relaxants like myoril ( 4 mg twice a day). Also I would suggest hot fomentation twice daily and any local analgesic cream available nearby.
Certain precautions like no weight lifting , Avoid forward bending and prolonged sitting - till you start physical therapy.
Thanks for the question. I hope to have answered your query. Please ask any other question.
We shall see scans as and when it is done.
Thanks.
