Does Alcohol Consumption Cause Tremors, Confusion And Excessive Sleepiness?

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Jan 2017
Question: I'm an alcoholic on my 3rd day of de-tox, which has gone well. Slow, unstable balance, confusion, lots of sleeping. I also have essential tremor which exacerbated my alcohol use/abuse. I truly hope that becoming sober will help to lessen my tremor. The last 2 years the tremor has gotten worse. I feel it through my entire body during de-tox (both hands, head, legs). Before de-tox, brushing teeth I get paste all over my face. I can't eat without bracing both wrists on a stable surface. I take 150mg Primidone, 120mg Propranalol per day. Plus 10mg lisinopril and 150mg venlafaxine daily for HBP and anxiety. Today is my last day of librium. Do you have words of advice? - XXXX

Brief Answer:
Your Goal must be to PERMANENTLY SEPARATE FROM ALCOHOL

Detailed Answer:
Good evening. Whether or not the tremor improves by becoming sober is not something that can be predicted with certainty. Many factors will determine the extent to which your body can heal. However, essential tremors (ET) have a variety of treatments and therefore, if you had to pick a type of shaking problem to have with the most likely chance of good outcome then, essential tremors are the ones! HA!

I work as the Interim Director at an Infusion Clinic primarily catering to patients with substance abuse issues.

You are on a number of medications for the tremor and my prediction is that you will continue to need such support to control the ET. However, you should continue working toward full and permanent sobriety. In our clinic our patients get a tremendous amount of support in and success in our clinic from the therapists, counselors, Reiki sessions, Neurofeedback, and nutritious meals served by the facility chef.

In other words, make use from ALL RESOURCES that are available to you in order to suppress cravings, change and make permanent your attitude toward alcohol's benefits because there really are NONE when used in the toxic doses people unfortunately find themselves drawn to when abusing.

There are a few articles you may find interesting on the facility's website that I invite you to read. The following link discusses details on alcohol that I believe you shall find useful since you are asking for "words of advice." Please click the following:
