Brief Answer:
Definitely will cause PSA elevation.

Detailed Answer:
Good Day and thank you for being with Healthcare Magic!

Yes any Prostate manipulation and invasive procedure like cystoscopy can definitely increase PSA levels. Urinary tract infection can also elevate the PSA level because it can cause inflammation of the prostate gland. By how much it can increase the PSA is really hard to determine and there are no studies to quantify the PSA increase?

I would suggest repeating the PSA a week after your UTI has been treated since the half life of PSA is 2-3 days.

Brief Answer:
Yes infection can feel like a boggy prostate gland

Detailed Answer:
Good day and thank you for your follow-up question.

What did he mean your right side feels abnormal but didnt feel like any tumor ? Usually what we feel during digital rectal examination is either a hard nodule which may feel like a prostate tumor or a boggy tender prostate which may represent prostatitis (inflammation lf the prostate) or a prostatic abscess which can be a complication of a urinary tract infection.

I would suggest repeating your serum PSA after a week or two and getting a free PSA and total psa determination to better decide if you need a biopsy or not. The free to total PSA ratio is used to determine the risk for prostate cancer in the PSA grey zone levels which is PSA in the ranges of 4-10.

Hello,
I had a TRUS done today and was told there is prostate
Abscess..in this case I will wait about 4 weeks in order to get my PSA done again...I'm pretty sure that my infection(klebsiella pneumoniae), the digital rectal exam and cystoscopy did make my PSA go up.
doctor

Brief Answer:
Yes definitely increase the PSA.

Detailed Answer:
Ok then you will be needing prolonged antibiotic therapy to treat the abscess and if it doesn't respond to antibiotic then drainage of the abscess might be needed to totally resolve it.

Yes the PSA elevation is due to the prostatic abscess and will be repeated when everything is normal with your prostate.

Sorry for the confusion..TRUS exam revealed no prostate abscess. ..what should I do?? I still have discomfort around my anus..could it be that my infection has not healed yet and that's why my prostate is abnormal??
Chronic prostatitis of acute prostatitis?? I don't which one I'm suffering from (I was diagnosed with klebsiella pneumoniae initially)
Thank you
doctor

Brief Answer:
One month of antibiotic is needed to treat.

Detailed Answer:
So TRUS of the prostate did not reveal anything. You may be suffering from acute prostatitis which is a complication of a urinary tract infection. You may need a month of antibiotic to clear the infection and your doctor might prescribe you a fluoroquinolone (ciprofloxacin or Levofloxacin) since the prostate is a really tough organ for the antibiotic to penetrate. Most commonly after the treatment your pain in the anus would go away once the infection in the prostate gland has been cleared.

Only a few patients progress to chronic prostatitis after proper antibiotic treatment.

Hello,
I just completed a course of 6 weeks of antibiotics "Cipro"..should I take it for another month??
doctor
Answered by Dr. Manuel C See IV (14 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Get a proatatic fluid culture.

Detailed Answer:
If you still have pain then I would suggest getting a prostatic fluid massage collected then sending it for a fluid culture. I wouldnt recommend taking the ciprofloxacin for one more month because 6 weeks should have been enough if the organism is susceptible to ciprofloxacin.
