Does Z-pack Help Cure Sore Throat And Headache?
Question: I have lots of drainage--sore throat and headache in morning---no temp--no cough. Has lasted 10 days Can it be an infection without temp?. I have a Zpack. Should I start on it?

Hi,
I am sorry for the situation you are going through.
Having sore throat with headache in the morning associated with lots of drainage are due to viral infection. If the sore throat is unbearable and is causing difficulty in swallowing due to enlarged tonsils (tonsillitis), and taking into account your age, then, you can use Zpack. You can take a photo of your throat and send to me for further evaluation.
Otherwise, please wait for a few more days to see if the symptoms will subside.
For the moment, apart taking Zyrtec and Flonase, I'd advise to :
- gargle with warm water and salt
- gargle with 1 teaspoon of olive oil can also be beneficial
- take 1 teaspoon of honey and keep in your mouth until fully dissolved
- increase fluids intake
- take oral antiseptic candies or spray
- take an anti-inflammatory med (e.g. ibuprofen, or acetaminophen) to ease headache and sore throat
