Does Wellbutrin Interact With Lexapro And Abilify?

default
Posted on Fri, 29 Apr 2016
Question: My doctor just recently added 150 mg of wellbutrin xl to my Lexapro 20mg and abilify 5mg. I want to stop taking abilify and think this is too much medication to treat my MDD. What do you think about this combination? Also, I have tried unsuccessfully to wean off of abilify and could not. Do you have suggestions about the best way to get off of this medicine? I has caused a 50 pound weight gain, and I am worried about diabetes since it runs in my family. It also can cause a condition that makes one have jerky motions and speech problems. I am really afraid of this medicine. I don't feel like myself on it. I have taken 5mg for years.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
I understand your concern.
wellbutrin is known to affect the blood levels of Abilify and Lexapro. So be cautious about side effects. I think you can reduce the dose of Abilify as Wellbutrin is known to increase the blood level of Abilify. You would be able to taper off the Abilify under your doctor's supervision and guidance.
Take care,
