Does Pranayama Lead To Inhalation Of Polluted Air?

default
Posted on Fri, 24 Jun 2016
Question: I am doing pranayama daily. I have learnt it from Yoga Camp in XXXXXXX I was wondering if pranayama make you inhale 5 times more air while doing that. Would not that means the disease which we are going to have 5 years later would occur in one year. Although we can try best to do pranayma close to green areas. Still pollution is there, specially in metropolitan cities.By that logic doesn't that mean our body taking 5 years air in one year and will suffer. I am not against pranayama infact i do it daily for 2 hours in morning. Still this fear i want to clarify.
Like when we do Bhastrika and anolvilom then more air is going inside body. Wouldnot that means we are taking more pollution. Please explain

Brief Answer:
pranayama is not in taking air in and out.

Detailed Answer:
Pranayama is not deep breathing.   The level of Oxygen in blood and tissues is increased by this method.

Deep breathing helps because the bottom of your.lungs have more alveoli to absorb oxygen than the top or middle, but you also have to take big breaths and breathe slowly enough to absorb the oxygen. By exercising control over this breathing you can control the subtle Prana inside.

Control of Prana means control of mind. Mind cannot operate without the help of Prana. The vibrations of Prana only produce thoughts in the mind. It is Prana that moves the mind. It is Prana that sets the mind in motion. As per your query regarding pollution morning 4 to 6 am is ideal to practice pranayama. Fresh air that mean oxygen concentrate in that time is so high. So in metro cities ideal time is to practise pranayama is morning 4 to 6.

Taking more air is not the issue here taking more oxygen is important for the well being. Oxygen intake is the vital whish nourishes all the system including brain.kindly let me know if there any clarification.
