Question: I am on oxcarbazepine 150mg. I have severe depression. Why was I prescribed this?

You list of several medications above that indicate you have bipolar depression. Seroquel, Abilify, Depakote, Topamax, and oxcarbazepine are all FDA approved and in large-scale randomized clinical trials have proven effective in the treatment of bipolar depression.

Sometimes an individual's genetic profile and metabolism means some of these may not work well for you individually. If you have failed the other medications you list above in the "medications tried" section, Oxcarbazepine is a reasonable next choice to try to help you.
